Ayles Fernie Supplies Dispersant Spray Systems to Support European Spill Response
Supporting Rapid Mobilisation Across European Waters
The Equipment Assistance Service consists of stand-alone stockpiles of oil pollution response equipment positioned in selected locations across Europe. The equipment can be mobilised around the clock to complement the response capacity provided through EMSA’s network of oil spill response vessels.
Ayles Fernie was invited to tender for a range of portable dispersant spray systems, including a portable nozzle solution that could provide flexible capability aboard suitable vessels.
Its BOATSPRAY 200 system, equipped with AFEDO nozzles, can produce an effective spray width of 16 metres on each side of a vessel. The solution met or exceeded the tender requirement for a minimum effective width of 15 metres to both port and starboard.
Equipment Supply and Operator Training
Following the contract award in 2018, systems were supplied to equipment locations in Ravenna, Limassol, Devnya and Aberdeen. Each system included the necessary fittings, hoses and spare components, stored together in an aluminium container.
Ayles Fernie also delivered operator training to key personnel within the EMSA network in June 2019. The programme combined classroom learning, practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises. It covered dispersant use, application-rate calculations and the correct setup and adjustment of the equipment.
